The UTMB campus has expanded with the $438 million Jennie Sealy Hospital and admitted its first patients on April 6, 2016. This hospital adds 765,000 square feet, 310 patient rooms, 60 ICU rooms, 20 operating rooms and 28 day surgery rooms.
The Anesthesiology Department has been relocated to Jennie Sealy with more space and new resident and faculty facilities. Just about every patient room has a gorgeous view of the Gulf of Mexico or Galveston Bay/Galveston Harbor. This addition to the existing John Sealy and TDCJ Hospitals provides a total of over 600 patient rooms.
And there’s more…. The 150,000-squarefoot UTMB League City Campus (LCC) Hospital opened to patients June 4, 2016. This facility adds an additional 10 operating rooms, 4 endoscopy suites, 2 cardiac catheterization labs, 20 medical/surgery patient rooms, 24-hour Emergency Department and Labor, Delivery and Postpartum Units to provide inpatient and emergency care. The LCC Hospital marks UTMB’s expansion to inpatient care on the mainland and is connected to the campus’ specialty clinics, which opened in 2010.
