TSA START GRANT

SA Scholarly Targeted Anesthesiology Research for Texas
(TSA-START) Grant
The Texas Society of Anesthesiologists is pleased to announce the opportunity to apply for funding through the TSA-START (Scholarly Targeted Anesthesiology Research for Texas) Grant. The major purpose of this program is to allow qualified anesthesiologists, pain, and critical care physicians to obtain preliminary data to improve the competitiveness of their grant proposals submitted to agencies.
To obtain funding, the investigator must demonstrate to the Review Committee that the overall proposal is fundable once the investigator develops the identified preliminary data. It is then expected that the awardees will subsequently apply for support from federal sources.
Apply by submitting a single PDF containing the elements in the Application Checklist to startgrant@tsa.org.

As the TSA continues to celebrate Women’s History Month, we would like to highlight an article that was recently published about the women that served as the ASA President, three of them being from Texas. This article examines the only 5 women to become presidents of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) so far. Through their personal histories, these physicians tell a collective history of women in this specialty from the 1950s to today. We trace their initial interest in medicine, medical educations and training, careers, and family lives. In doing so, the diversity of these individuals’ choices and experiences emerge, and also the context in which women anesthesiologists worked. They shaped the specialty by creating new programs, addressing emerging professional problems, and mentoring successive generations. Simultaneously, they dealt with issues common to professional women in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, such as balancing a demanding career and family. journals.lww.com/anesthesia-analgesia/abstract/2025/04000/five_women_american_society_of_anesthes... ...
