The TSA enjoys highlighting our members as often as we can. This June, we are spotlighting Dr. Maisie Jackson, a board-certified Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Jackson is deeply passionate about medical student and resident education and with the medical student/resident poster competition deadline fast approaching, we thought this was the perfect time to put the spotlight on her.
She began her career at UT Houston where she was heavily involved in resident education and wellness. She returned to her medical school alma mater where she works clinically at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. At the VA, she is part of the Education Committee and has created new resident curriculum for their unique variety of non-OR anesthesia. Dr. Jackson is continuously looking for ways to improve resident education. Last year, she helped create a novel anesthesia board game for CA-1s which was presented at the TSA! She also completed the BCM Basic Educator Course to continue honing her skills as an educator. She believes that as the trainees and technology evolve, educators must evolve as well!
One of her truest joys in her career thus far has come through her work at the medical school. She enjoys working with the students in the OR and has served as a mentor through the BCM x McGovern Women in Anesthesia mentor program. She has taught several courses including Ethics and Social Determinants of Health. She also serves as one of the Specialty Specific Mentors for Anesthesia and is hoping through this role she can continue mentoring and guiding students on their journey to a fulfilling career in Anesthesia!
