WHAT DOES THE TSA DO FOR ME?

This is the most common question I receive from members. While it’s difficult to produce a comprehensive list due to space limitations, I hope the following examples will provide you with a sense that your TSA leadership is representing and serving you well.

Education

World Class Anesthesiology CME Programs are offered at the September TSA Annual Meeting providing members with the opportunity to select from 38.50 hours and earn up to 24 CME hours. During the TSA Annual Aeeting, both attending Anesthesiologists and resident physicians can present their research to Annual Meeting attendees. Additionally, the TSA Interim Meeting, paired with the TEXMED offers 6 CME hours specific to Anesthesiology. A new educational offering for TSA members is the Practice Management Seminar that focuses on issues specific to Texas Anesthesiologists.

TSA also offers an annual CPR Day at the Capitol. During the past 5 years we have helped almost 500 Texas legislators, staff, and Capitol employees learn lifesaving CPR techniques.

Patients can also learn about our organization, the role of an Anesthesiologist, and the difference between nurse anesthetists and physician anesthesiologists on the TSA website.

Communication

The TSA has a number of ways to keep you informed on important matters. The TSA Bulletin is published biannually and informs TSA members of scientific, legislative and economic issues involving Anesthesiology. The TSA Newsletter is published each spring to announce the Interim Meeting, House of Delegates election results, and to advise members of actions taken by the Board of Directors of the TSA and the ASA. Occasionally, when an important issue arises, we will send emails to keep the entire membership updated.

More recently, we have done a complete renovation of the TSA website as well as delved into social media. If you are on Facebook follow us at https://www.facebook.com/texassocanes. Look for our Twitter account to be created in the coming months to follow us in real-time!

Regulatory, Legal, and Legislative Advocacy

Advocacy is important in advancing issues that affect our patients safety and access to safe and quality care. The TSA often joins with TMA and ASA in educating state and national legislators and regulatory agencies on scope of practice, patient access, and other issues which could threaten patient
