ASA/ASRA UGRA Portfolio

Did you know?
Did you know the TSA Regional Anesthesia Workshop has been accredited for TSA members participating in the ASA/ASRA Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia (UGRA) Education and Clinical Training Portfolio.

What is the UGRA Portfolio?
http://education.asahq.org/ugra
The Ultrasound‐Guided Regional Anesthesia (UGRA) Education and Clinical Training Portfolio is a joint initiative from ASA and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) designed for anesthesiologists who wish to distinguish themselves in the field and provide evidence of training and experience to share with employers. The program guides participants through specific criteria to demonstrate knowledge and achievement in UGRA procedures. The program requires participants to progressively build knowledge through participation in specific CME activities and validate experience via case log documentation. The completed portfolio contains data that defines all UGRA achievements, the criteria required to meet the achievement and evidence of how those criteria were met.
The portfolio does not intend to restrict the practice of UGRA, nor does participation ensure competency or certification in the performance of UGRA techniques.
How do I get started on the Portfolio?

To celebrate Women's History Month, the TSA is continuing to highlight some of our amazing female members and what they are currently working on or some of their most recent achievements. Next up is Dr. Beth Teegarden, a Board-certified Anesthesiologist and Intensivist with a strong focus on clinical care and education. She currently serves as an active clinician and educator at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, TX. At UTMB, she holds several leadership roles, including Division Chief of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology, as well as Medical Director for both the Surgical ICU and Respiratory Care.
Since 2021, Dr. Teegarden has been an APPLIED examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). In recognition of her dedication to education, she was honored with the ASA-SEA Distinguished Educator in Anesthesiology Award in 2024. She was also recently selected to serve on the Board of Directors for the Society of Critical Care Medicine Texas Chapter. Dr. Teegarden brings a wealth of experience from her role as a Board Member of the National Board for Respiratory Care, and she remains an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists' (ASA) Committees on Respiratory Care and Critical Care Medicine. Additionally, she contributes to regional committees for the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists (TSA).
A passionate advocate for women in medicine, Dr. Teegarden co-chairs the Women in Critical Care (WICC) group within the Society of Critical Care Anesthesiologists, encouraging more women to pursue careers in critical care medicine. Her professional interests include high-fidelity simulation training, point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), and creating dynamic, active-learning curricula. These interests have led to two education grants aimed at establishing a POCUS training program at UTMB.
